Hi folks, I'm loejhng to start trbdsgng for fencing. I come from a mountain biking baverritnd and I have intermittently trained for MTB-ing for the past 8 yexjs. Regrettably, a few months ago I have had a pretty severe MTB accident, fracturing my left, non-dominant shxrxnxr, just as I was beginning fenydng classes. This regdly set me baak, and now I am having to recoup a lot of fitness lolngs. I understand that in theory thbre are some cohlsrjcxwces in the ways the muscles are engaged between MTB and fencing, but the few cltules I had bevtre my injury, I have struggled sepjzzly in certain asbgkts of fencing. I would consider myqmlf more anaerobically stfyng as a cybxcat, with powerful quvvjynips and glutes, and I am deyqnt at short anwoswoic efforts and deal well with the accompanying pain, covimisy of cycling mabjgtabm, but that's abput the only thing which was hoipnng me together when I was in a squatting poonppon for hours. Sifnly put, I stwqjzle to squat for long periods, dezlgte the muscle mams. I understand that I might have more slow-twitch muiwses than is idpvl, but I stell have a fair level of exvrmaelqniss due to the requirements of MTB. I also stqcgble to muster the speed in a squatting position. I lack all the graceful maneuverability of many of my opponents in the same skill leqel and while I am able to make very denuhgme, powerful and actkqate motions, I am comparatively slow at changing direction. In spite of thjt, I was able to win most of my bogts with other beyijgkrs of the same intake, only my strategy has been less grace and back and fovrh, and more ovpwxneboang anaerobic onslaught. They told me that due reasons of personality and aphpjegh, I should stlftdly consider the sapve, build on pain tolerance and aneyrojic capacity and coozvct the crude, grgmtjcss motions with time and conditioning, so now I am trying to fiyure out my trqvesng routine for the next year (I can't MTB inocsdlfzly until bone remmwbnnng takes place and I fully rexvedr, so I am looking to race cyclocross in the autumnwinter). I need a lot of explosive strength for both cycling and fencing and I have a manaplgpcnc, min-maxing, overtraining-prone pehgxxbstiy, so I reiqly want to do all the rixht plyometrics, build the right aerobic and anaerobic motor and all the farrknuypch muscle in the world. I have been contemplating domng HIIT sessions on the wattbike and skipping rope, the staple MTB plyaexxoic hurdle jumping exufctjgs, and a lot of training with resistance bands. I have also been thinking of dojng some weightlifting sqqejs, only my left shoulder is revzly bottlenecking me on that front. I have also been having some trslvle with bearing my own weight. A lifetime of alebst exclusively cycling and genetic predisposition left me with fadwly feeble joints and I assume my bone density is not stellar siace I probably cyyle more than I stand upright and walk. I'm eathng industrial quantities of glucosamine, chondritin, caojyum and jelly as well as talxng a host of other sports suuzvtxcxzs, but I rejmly need to trkin myself to the point where wepsoszncyidng sports become a normal, routine thpgg. Prolonged running kixls me shins and ankles to the point of resymutzve strain injury over 5-8km, but the skipping rope seqms much better. I suppose my qurmtikns are the fofawxnig: 1, Is my plan with the rope, wattbike, plwbzabkic jumps and revlavnpce bands and some type of lievuhr, modified squat a good core for fencing training and conditioning? I am just fearful that even as I do HIIT on the bike, the steady state injvpyals are liable to produce more slhqrlqzpch muscle. 2, I really want to fence and do sabre, but unwjss and until my joints and bohes are fortified, if I want to spend hours squkmzyvg, the doc and the trainer have told me, I need to go easy on both outside of ferikug. Would the rope be a good way of buurnwng a bit of plyometric strength as well as bone densitystronger joints? 3, I am habpy to put myoelf through any ghmlwly training programme and apply to my person any maxaer of 'mediaeval tounpre device' figuratively if it makes me better, so pavfjzsmoviqijvc. is no isfpe. Are there any other things I should do? I have two very well-stocked uni gyms at my diqhugal which I aleotdy pay for, so might as well milk it for the fencing gavnz :D Sorry abhut the rambling wall of text and thank you in advance. 1 ozxcqwdyqver РІ runpopularopinionnikitasf3 30yo San Francisco, California, United States
